“Hurt people hurt people”… (devo reflection)

Leviticus 19:11 “ ‘Do not steal. “ ‘Do not lie. “ ‘Do not deceive one another.

Commentary posits that these rules in Leviticus 19 were laid out because the Israelites endured 400 years of captivity in a land of casual cruelty and they needed the reminder that cruelty isn’t–or shouldn’t be–the norm.

Leviticus 19:12 “ ‘Do not swear falsely by my name and so profane the name of your God. I am the Lord.

Unfortunately, in this world of rampant social media, casual cruelty is still alarmingly prevalent. Common sense reminders like, “Don’t make someone else’s life harder just because you can” are necessary, bringing to mind Paul’s exhortation in 1 Thess 5:11 to instead “…encourage one another and build each other up…”.

Leviticus 19:13 “ ‘Do not defraud or rob your neighbor. “ ‘Do not hold back the wages of a hired worker overnight.

Precious Savior, Today I am reminded of the Ram Dass quote, “We are all just walking each other home.” In this life, help us to remember that we were put on this earth not to make the journey more difficult, but to share Your light and Your love along the way. Help us, Jesus, to smooth the way for our fellow travelers…or at least not to make the way intentionally more difficult. Amen.

Leviticus 19:14 “ ‘Do not curse the deaf or put a stumbling block in front of the blind, but fear your God. I am the Lord.

Have a blessed day.
