God’s infinite grace…. (devo reflection)

Leviticus 19:6-7 It shall be eaten on the day you sacrifice it or on the next day; anything left over until the third day must be burned up.  If any of it is eaten on the third day, it is impure and will not be accepted.

Last night at Bible study we looked at Matt 18:21-35, The Parable of the Unmerciful Servant. A comment was made about Matt 6:12 “Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.” I have always read that as “Forgive us our sins as [in the same way that] we forgive others,” meaning if we forgive much, we will be forgiven much.

Leviticus 19:8 Whoever eats it will be held responsible because they have desecrated what is holy to the Lord; they must be cut off from their people.

But the question was raised that if we don’t/can’t forgive, will God rescind His forgiveness of us as the king in the parable does. The consensus was no. A friend posited: What if Matt 6:12 is really saying “Forgive us as [even while we struggle to] forgive others.” That interpretation, to me, speaks of God’s infinite grace.

Leviticus 19:9 “ ‘When you reap the harvest of your land, do not reap to the very edges of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest.

Precious Savior, In Matt 5:48, You tell us to “Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect,” yet You know perfection is out of our grasp. Thank You for this reminder that we are to continue to be like You, even as we fail in trying to be like You, that our efforts help to bring us closer to You all the same. Thank You, Jesus. Amen.

Leviticus 19:10 Do not go over your vineyard a second time or pick up the grapes that have fallen. Leave them for the poor and the foreigner. I am the Lord your God.

Have a blessed day.
