Exodus 35:5 From what you have, take an offering for the Lord. Everyone who is willing is to bring to the Lord an offering of gold, silver and bronze;
The first part of verse 5 catches my attention this morning: “From what you have….” Commentary relates it to 2 Cor 9:7 “Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”
Exodus 35:6-7 blue, purple and scarlet yarn and fine linen; goat hair; ram skins dyed red and another type of durable leather; acacia wood;
The idea that we already have what we need to honor God, that all we need to do is give with a cheerful heart, is quite intriguing to me. What if we all did that? Give to others, not denying ourselves necessarily, but giving whatever it is we “decided in [our] hearts to give”. What a world that would be.
Exodus 35:8 olive oil for the light; spices for the anointing oil and for the fragrant incense;
Precious Savior, Thank You for the reminder that You have given us the tools and the resources to be Your hands and feet to each other. Help us to give of what we have to help others and glorify you. Help me, Jesus. Amen.
Exodus 35:9 and onyx stones and other gems to be mounted on the ephod and breastpiece.
Have a blessed day.
