Leviticus 8:30a Then Moses took some of the anointing oil and some of the blood from the altar and sprinkled them on Aaron and his garments and on his sons and their garments.
I jokingly refer to myself as a Bapti-Catho-Methodist: raised Baptist, converted to Catholicism for much of my early adulthood, and, for many years now, at home in the Methodist church. Today’s verses make me think of the ceremony of my Catholic years.
Leviticus 8:30b So he consecrated Aaron and his garments and his sons and their garments.
I converted to Catholicism in college when life as I knew it for all of my youth was transitioning to something completely unknown. I think that part of the appeal of Catholicism during that time was the ceremony, the ritual. No matter what was going on in my life, I knew exactly what to expect during Mass, I could count on it, and that brought me great comfort.
Leviticus 8:31 Moses then said to Aaron and his sons, “Cook the meat at the entrance to the tent of meeting and eat it there with the bread from the basket of ordination offerings, as I was commanded: ‘Aaron and his sons are to eat it.’
Precious Savior, It never really occurred to me before that You were guiding my Bapti-Catho-Methodist journey, guiding me during every stage of my life so that I could see You, hear Your voice, feel Your love most vividly. Thank You for this lovely way to look at my religious journey. Thank You that every step has brought me closer to You. Amen.
Leviticus 8:32 Then burn up the rest of the meat and the bread.
