Leviticus 4:32 “ ‘If someone brings a lamb as their sin offering, they are to bring a female without defect.
This morning’s scripture made me think of a part of the Catholic Mass (called the Confiteor, I looked it up), “I confess to almighty God and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have sinned in my thoughts and words, in what I have done and what I have failed to do.”
Leviticus 4:33 They are to lay their hand on its head and slaughter it for a sin offering at the place where the burnt offering is slaughtered.
Commentary on today’s scripture says that God cares about the unintentional sins of the common people. The comments on the Confiteor suggest praying it daily, even hourly. I truly think what is important is remembering that we are human and fallible, that we sin in ways we don’t even realize or intend, and we need to be mindful and make amends.
Leviticus 4:34 Then the priest shall take some of the blood of the sin offering with his finger and put it on the horns of the altar of burnt offering and pour out the rest of the blood at the base of the altar.
Precious Savior, I truly don’t think You want us to be mired in memories of or regret for our sin, intentional or not. But I do think You want us to be mindful of the ways we sin without intending, without knowing, and I think You want us to attend to anything that puts a barrier between us and You. Help me, Jesus. Amen.
Leviticus 4:35 They shall remove all the fat, just as the fat is removed from the lamb of the fellowship offering, and the priest shall burn it on the altar on top of the food offerings presented to the Lord. In this way the priest will make atonement for them for the sin they have committed, and they will be forgiven.
Have a blessed day.
