“…you whom I love and long for, my joy and my crown.” (devo reflection)

Philippians 4:1 Therefore, my brothers and sisters, you whom I love and long for, my joy and crown, stand firm in the Lord in this way, dear friends!

Verse 1 makes me smile. “…you whom I love and long for, my joy and my crown.” These are his brothers and sisters in Christ that he’s speaking so dearly to, his family in Christ. It just warms my heart to hear the affection.

Philippians 4:2 I plead with Euodia and I plead with Syntyche to be of the same mind in the Lord.

I am also intrigued to hear him call so many women by name. I tend to think of Christ’s disciples as male, of Christ’s society as male-dominated, and both are true, but clearly women were active in the cause as well. Again, it makes me smile.

Philippians 4:3a Yes, and I ask you, my true companion, help these women since they have contended at my side in the cause of the gospel….

Precious Savior, Thank You for the reminder that we all have a place in Your kingdom work. Thank You for the reminder to love our brothers and sisters in Christ as the family they are. Thank You for who You are and who You are to me. Amen.

Philippians 4:3b …along with Clement and the rest of my co-workers, whose names are in the book of life.

Have a blessed day.
