Genesis 3:9 But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?”
God’s words in verse 9 feel like an excellent daily check-in to me: “Where are you?” How are you doing? Are you on track? Are you praising God? Are you bringing Him glory? Are you uplifting others? Are you at the very least not making people’s lives harder?
Genesis 3:10 He answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.”
Forgive me if I’m not being very charitable, but these first words from Adam are not very inspiring. At their heart, his first words are explanation, but they feel like excuse. And I’m not going to lie–I am in a stage of life where I am way too often grumpy at things, people, and situations that I ought to be able to have better perspective about. So I honestly kind of get Adam and his uninspiring blame game. Jesus, Help me.
Genesis 3:11 And he said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?”
Precious Savior, Forgive me that instead of being Your light, far too often I am grumpy. Forgive me when I don’t take responsibility for my attitude. Help me to root myself in You so that I can change my attitude for the better. Ask me daily, “Where are you?” so that I can check in with myself and with You and make a change for the better when needed. Amen.
Genesis 3:12 The man said, “The woman you put here with me—she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it.”
Have a blessed day.
