Luke 7:9 When Jesus heard this, he was amazed at him, and turning to the crowd following him, he said, “I tell you, I have not found such great faith even in Israel.”
The fact that Jesus was amazed at the faith of the centurion really struck me this morning, so I looked at other translations of verse 9 to see what word they used. Many translations use the word amazed. Some used marveled at, wondered at, was surprised, was astonished. The fact remains that this Roman centurion’s faith in Jesus’s ability (and understanding of how Jesus’s healing worked) amazed the Creator of the Universe.
Luke 7:10 Then the men who had been sent returned to the house and found the servant well.
I’m pretty sure Jesus has never looked at me, at my life, and been amazed (except, perhaps, to be amazed by the wonder of His own creation), but I think it would be phenomenal if my life, my faith amazed my Savior. I know for a fact that with my current struggles with anger, bitterness, doubt, fear, etc, that’s not happening, but it could. I’d love for that to be my goal.
Luke 7:11 Soon afterward, Jesus went to a town called Nain, and his disciples and a large crowd went along with him.
Precious Savior, Thank You for the example of the centurion’s faith in and understanding of You and Your healing. Help me to grow in faith. Help me to have faith more like the centurion and less like the disciples, who, even though they are with you daily, they still doubt, they still question, they still lack faith. Help me, Jesus. Amen.
Luke 7:12 As he approached the town gate, a dead person was being carried out—the only son of his mother, and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the town was with her.
Have a blessed day.
