Genesis 49:9 You are a lion’s cub, Judah; you return from the prey, my son. Like a lion he crouches and lies down, like a lioness—who dares to rouse him?
We don’t know what we don’t know. It is a truth that I taught my students every semester, and a truth that I try to hold onto in life. We don’t know how those dreams we are chasing will work out. We don’t know how our mistakes and missteps will bring us closer to Jesus.
Genesis 49:10 The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, until he to whom it belongs shall come and the obedience of the nations shall be his.
To me, this section of Genesis, especially this section about Judah, is a look into the future, what will be. Judah was not a perfect person. His legacy was that of a lion’s cub (young, undeveloped). But the potential in him, in his line, a line that leads straight to Jesus–that’s worth waiting for, worth holding on for.
Genesis 49:11 He will tether his donkey to a vine, his colt to the choicest branch; he will wash his garments in wine, his robes in the blood of grapes.
Precious Savior, We don’t know what we don’t know. Thankfully, You know all things. You are sovereign, compassionate, fiercely loving. Help us to hold on to hope. Always. Help us to remember that we are lion’s cubs–still growing, still learning, still working for You. Amen.
Genesis 49:12 His eyes will be darker than wine, his teeth whiter than milk.
Have a blessed day.
