Genesis 14:1 At the time when Amraphel was king of Shinar, Arioch king of Ellasar, Kedorlaomer king of Elam and Tidal king of Goyim,
In chapter 13, conflict arose between the herders of Abram and Lot, so Abram suggested they part ways and spread out to avoid conflict. Unfortunately, today’s verses show that conflict is a fact of life.
Genesis 14:2 these kings went to war against Bera king of Sodom, Birsha king of Gomorrah, Shinab king of Admah, Shemeber king of Zeboyim, and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar).
It makes me think of my sometimes quest for the perfect situation (perfect job, perfect class, perfect….whatever). Sometimes I get into this headspace that if only this particular thing were to happen or be the case, *then* everything would be perfect. I’ve learned that perfection is not a thing of this earth. There’s always something.
Genesis 14:3 All these latter kings joined forces in the Valley of Siddim (that is, the Dead Sea Valley).
Precious Savior, Help me to focus on what is and what could be and not chase after perfection. Perfection on earth does not exist. But goodness, light, hope….they exist. Help me to do my best, to love You and love others, to deal with what is and keep striving for what could be in a way that allows me to glorify You. Amen.
Genesis 14:4 For twelve years they had been subject to Kedorlaomer, but in the thirteenth year they rebelled.
Have a blessed day.
