Luke 6:20 Looking at his disciples, he said: “Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.
Today’s verses are hard for me, for many, I think. But as I try to articulate WHY they are hard, I struggle with the words. Personally, I don’t want to struggle with want and lack. I don’t want to do without. I have spent a lot of time working and planning and preparing to be sure that I have what I need when I need so that I won’t find myself wanting or lacking.
Luke 6:21 Blessed are you who hunger now, for you will be satisfied.
Interestingly, as I was typing that, God’s gentle voice whispered to my heart, “What have you gotten for all that striving, all that planning, all that preparing and working? Has it brought you the peace that can only come from Me? Has it taught you to trust Me for all your needs? Do you rest in My peace as you go through your day?” The answer, of course, is a resounding no. Ok, Lord, I get it.
Luke 6:21b Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh.
Precious Savior, Thank You for showing up with me each morning, for whispering to my heart these simple truths that I need to embrace and understand if I am to live in Your peace. Help me to quit striving to take care of my needs in my own power. Help me to trust You, even when I am afraid. You will supply all my needs. Help me, Jesus. Amen.
Luke 6:22 Blessed are you when people hate you, when they exclude you and insult you and reject your name as evil, because of the Son of Man.
Have a blessed day.
