Genesis 47:5 Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Your father and your brothers have come to you,
Commentary says, in response to the Pharaoh telling Joseph to settle his father and brothers in the best part of the land, “This blessing was because of Joseph. He saved Egypt and much of the world from terrible famine.” If his brothers hadn’t sold him into slavery, he would not have been in a position to do that.
Genesis 47:6 and the land of Egypt is before you; settle your father and your brothers in the best part of the land. Let them live in Goshen. And if you know of any among them with special ability, put them in charge of my own livestock.”
My preacher often says, “The worst thing is never the last thing.” This entire story seems a good illustration of that saying and a good reminder for us. God can use all things–ALL things–for our good and His glory. So if you are struggling, hold on. The worst thing IS NOT the last thing. God’s got You. He’s making a way.
Genesis 47:7 Then Joseph brought his father Jacob in and presented him before Pharaoh. After Jacob blessed Pharaoh,
Precious Savior, Sometimes life is just hard. Thank You for being present, even when life is difficult, even when we can’t sense Your presence, even when it feels like we are living “the worst thing.” Help us to remember that You are with us, that You will never leave us, that You are making a way, even now, even if we cannot yet perceive it. Help us, Jesus. Amen.
Genesis 47:8-9 Pharaoh asked him, “How old are you?” And Jacob said to Pharaoh, “The years of my pilgrimage are a hundred and thirty. My years have been few and difficult, and they do not equal the years of the pilgrimage of my fathers.”
