Luke 6:17a He went down with them and stood on a level place.
As I read today’s verses, I have Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal” on loop in my head. I’ve been watching clips of the US artistic swimmers’ Olympic performance, and with that performance/song in my head and the actions in today’s verses on my mind, the scene feels like it could have been a bit frenetic.
Luke 6:17b A large crowd of his disciples was there and a great number of people from all over Judea, from Jerusalem, and from the coastal region around Tyre and Sidon,
I’m pretty sure my mental image here is flawed, as Jesus doesn’t strike me as one to move or work in frenetic energy. He is so loving, so gracious, so sovereign that His power radiated off of Him, healing all who touched even the hem of His robe. Intentionally or otherwise, I don’t think He would have whipped people into a frenzy as a criteria for healing. It’s not His style.
Luke 6:18 who had come to hear him and to be healed of their diseases. Those troubled by impure spirits were cured,
Precious Savior, Thank You that frenetic energy is not Your style, that You can calm any storm–inside or out, that You want to surround us with Your peace. Thank You that You can endure great numbers with compassion, healing their diseases, allowing Your power to radiate from You. Thank You that all I need to do is touch the hem of Your robe to find healing. Help me, Jesus. Amen.
Luke 6:19 and the people all tried to touch him, because power was coming from him and healing them all.
Have a blessed day.
