Exodus 12:37 The Israelites journeyed from Rameses to Sukkoth. There were about six hundred thousand men on foot, besides women and children.
Lots of thoughts are floating through my head as I read today’s scripture. Among them: The Israelites are finally free. How do they feel? Happy, sad, scared, numb, unmoored? The group leaving Egypt is large, no matter how you slice it. How did such a large group get moving? Was their discontent and resentment among them?
Exodus 12:38 Many other people went up with them, and also large droves of livestock, both flocks and herds.
There were some Egyptians in this group as well. Were they accepted, welcomed? Were they afraid? How did any of this group reconcile their current situation (leaving all they have known for centuries) with the God they worship? Were they relieved to leave Egypt? Did they worry about where they were headed?
Exodus 12:39a With the dough the Israelites had brought from Egypt, they baked loaves of unleavened bread.
Precious Savior, I know that sometimes you have to let go of what’s good to make room for what’s best, but I can’t help but wonder what the individuals thought and felt as they made this journey. Thank You that there is room for my questions, my curiosity, my ponderings. Thank You for the freedom to explore Your word so I can know You more, know You better. Amen.
Exodus 12:39b The dough was without yeast because they had been driven out of Egypt and did not have time to prepare food for themselves.
Have a blessed day.
