Acts 9:10a In Damascus there was a disciple named Ananias.
I have so many questions. Did Ananias ever have a “Jonah moment”? He seems to have no doubt the Lord is calling him. His fear seems obvious. Did he ever think of flat refusing? Did he wonder why he was the best person for the job? Did he have any doubts about whether this was really the Lord calling him? Did he think it might be a trick of some sort?
Acts 9:10b The Lord called to him in a vision, “Ananias!” “Yes, Lord,” he answered.
Did he respond immediately to the call? Did he hem and haw, trying to change God’s mind? Were visions common back then? If so, why are they no longer common? Does the Lord not talk to us as much? Did he find a better way to communicate? Did Ananias struggle at all with fear and trust as a result of this call? Am I ascribing my fear to Ananias as I read?
Acts 9:11 The Lord told him, “Go to the house of Judas on Straight Street and ask for a man from Tarsus named Saul, for he is praying.
Precious Savior, I have so many questions. Thank You for a curiosity for Your word. Thank You that each time I read Your word I find different things to ponder, different questions, different connections, different hopes and wonders. Thank You that Your word is living and active (Heb 4:12). Draw me closer every time I read and study it. Amen.
Acts 9:12 In a vision he has seen a man named Ananias come and place his hands on him to restore his sight.”
Have a blessed day.
