Shielding us, protecting us, strengthening us…. (devo reflection)

Daniel 3:26b …So Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego came out of the fire,

What started as rage has become amazement. What started as faith has become belief. But I always stumble in this tale with the fire metaphor. I want to take it literally, and my factual mind cannot comprehend no damage, not even a singed hair, from the inferno.

Daniel 3:27a and the satraps, prefects, governors and royal advisers crowded around them. They saw that the fire had not harmed their bodies, nor was a hair of their heads singed;

I know the fire is metaphorical. But even metaphorical fires can burn. Though I am well acquainted with the strength that can come from those crucibles, there always seems to be collateral damage.

Daniel 3:27b …their robes were not scorched, and there was no smell of fire on them.

Precious Savior, Forgive me if my mind is trying to make more of this passage than needs to be made. I do believe that you use the conflagrations of life to burn away our impurities. But I am so very grateful that You walk through those fires with us, shielding us, protecting us, strengthening us. Thank You. Amen.

Daniel 3:28Then Nebuchadnezzar said, “Praise be to the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, who has sent his angel and rescued his servants!

Have a blessed day.
