1 Samuel 3:13 For I told him that I would judge his family forever because of the sin he knew about; his sons blasphemed God, and he failed to restrain them.
I am so thankful for the sacrifice of Jesus. It is because of His sacrifice that we no longer face the fate of Eli and his sons. They no longer had the time or space to repent. Their fates were now sealed. I am so grateful that Jesus changed that reality, giving me the space to grow and change.
1 Samuel 3:14 Therefore I swore to the house of Eli, ‘The guilt of Eli’s house will never be atoned for by sacrifice or offering.’ ”
I am stubborn, often pigheaded. I set my plans and am often determined that that is the way things will go. I am terrible about saying, “Hey, God, I know You’ve got a plan, but I think mine is better….” It’s ridiculous, I know. Yet I also know that a good handful of folks reading this reflection will be nodding and saying, “Yep. Me, too.” Thankfully, Jesus knows our hearts and loves us fiercely.
1 Samuel 3:15 Samuel lay down until morning and then opened the doors of the house of the Lord. He was afraid to tell Eli the vision,
Precious Savior, Forgive me for those times that I am so committed to my own way that I don’t even stop to listen to the words that You are whispering to my heart. Help me to listen, to hear, to respond. Thank You for Your Son and for His sacrifice. Give me wisdom and strength to grow and mature as I go through each day. Amen.
1 Samuel 3:16 but Eli called him and said, “Samuel, my son.” Samuel answered, “Here I am.”
