Exodus 24:3 When Moses went and told the people all the LORD’s words and laws, they responded with one voice, “Everything the LORD has said we will do.”
The Israelites are coming off of some pretty heady God-moments: the parting of the Red Sea allowed them to escape certain death while crushing their enemies, literally. Manna from heaven assured them of physical sustenance. Without trying to be unkind, to say yes to God in the face of such overwhelming God-support seems like a no-brainer.
Exodus 24:7 Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read it to the people. They responded, “We will do everything the LORD has said; we will obey.”
It is much harder to say yes while slogging through valleys, when God’s provision doesn’t feel like a given. To say yes based on the fact that I know He is loving, even when my circumstances are frightening, to say yes based on His past provision, which seems so distant, to say yes because you know He’s been there time and time again and you have no reason to doubt He’s still with you, even though you can’t feel His presence, that takes faith, perseverance, steadfastness, trust.
Exodus 24:13 Then Moses set out with Joshua at his side, and Moses went up on the mountain of God.
Lord, Thank You for this day, for this scripture, for this reminder that You are with us always, even when we can’t perceive it. Thank You for the times that You show up so clearly in my life, and thank You that I can trust Your presence and provision even when I’m struggling. You are with me always, and I am eternally grateful. Draw me closer. Amen.
Exodus 24:18 Then Moses entered the cloud as he went on up the mountain. And he stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights.
Have a blessed day.
