Jer 17:8a “They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream….”
Anyone who comes into my classroom probably thinks I am incredibly skilled with plants. After all, I have 19 mostly-thriving plants by my window. But the truth is, I do not consider myself skilled with plants at all. Honestly, the fact that they are indeed still alive is a testament to the hardy plants I have. I’m always slightly afraid I’ll kill them with my non-gardening abilities.
Jer 17:8b …”It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”
Today’s verses put me in mind of my plants. Totally dependent on me, those poor things are always at risk of death. But when we sink our roots into our Savior, when we nourish our souls from the inside with His word, then we don’t have to fear external forces—heat, drought, poor gardening skills—because we know where our strength and our life-source originates. We know God’s got us.
John 1:4 In Him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.
Lord, Thank You for this day and the reminder that when we root ourselves in You, we don’t have to worry about whether the world will provide because we know You hold us securely in the palm of Your hand. Help us to ground ourselves daily in Your word, Your love, and Your grace. Draw us closer. Amen.
John 7:38 “Anyone who believes in Me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.’”
Have a blessed day.
