Isaiah 40:9 You who bring good news to Zion, go up on a high mountain.
When I read verse 9, Vince Gill’s song “Go Rest High on that Mountain” comes to mind. Verse 11 brings to mind the hymn “Like a Shepherd.” Music can be a powerful force, and for me, it is a way to draw me closer to God and give me hope, something that can be in short supply in this world.
Isaiah 40:9a You who bring good news to Jerusalem, lift up your voice with a shout, lift it up, do not be afraid; say to the towns of Judah, “Here is your God!”
The message of today’s verses (and in part of the songs these verses call to mind) reinforces that our God is both mighty and merciful, both infinitely strong and achingly gentle. We can trust Him in our strength and in our weakness. We can praise Him. Always. We can rest in Him, both now and forever more.
Isaiah 40:10 See, the Sovereign Lord comes with power, and he rules with a mighty arm. See, his reward is with him, and his recompense accompanies him.
Precious Savior, This life can be so hard. It can wear us down completely. Thank You for the reminder of both Your strength and Your gentleness. Thank You for the reminder that we can and should rest in You. Thank You for Your presence and Your sovereignty. Always. Amen.
Isaiah 40:11 He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young.
Have a blessed day.
