Luke 8:8 Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up and yielded a crop, a hundred times more than was sown.” When he said this, he called out, “Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.”
Commentary on today’s verses was fascinating, particularly because it touches on the idea of Reader Response Theory (RRT), which I fully subscribe to. RRT says that readers bring themselves to a text. Their lives, their experiences, help them make meaning of the text.
Luke 8:9 His disciples asked him what this parable meant.
Commentary goes on to say that this is true spiritually as well. If you aren’t looking for spiritual lessons, if you don’t understand or agree with spiritual ideas, you won’t see those things in the parable. Luke 8:10a He said, “The knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of God has been given to you,
Precious Savior, I love when You open my eyes and show me how truths in my professional life fit with truths in my spiritual life. Your word is active and alive, revealing Your truths with each additional reading *because* I am looking, listening, reading, trying to see and understand You. “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” Jer 29:13. Thank You. Amen.
Luke 8:10b …but to others I speak in parables, so that, “ ‘though seeing, they may not see; though hearing, they may not understand.’
Have a blessed day.
