Exodus 4:10 Moses said to the Lord, “Pardon your servant, Lord. I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue.”
“Pardon your servant, Lord. Please send someone else” (v13). I must admit that I am rather speechless. Moses has run out of excuses and gives his true answer, “I don’t want to.” I mean, I get it. He’s been a shepherd, a father, a husband in Midian for 40 years. He likes his life. But this is God calling.
Exodus 4:11 The Lord said to him, “Who gave human beings their mouths? Who makes them deaf or mute? Who gives them sight or makes them blind? Is it not I, the Lord?
Yet, even as I type those words, I know that I am guilty of the same thing–telling God I’m too comfortable, too settled, too complacent (though I would be hard pressed to admit to that last one) to do what He is calling me to do. Jesus, Help me.
Exodus 4:12 Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.”
Lord of the Comfortable, Forgive us when You call and we are too settled where we are to heed Your call. Help us, even in our comfort, to see when You are calling us outside of our comfort zones. Help us to act and to trust You. Always. Amen.
Exodus 4:13 But Moses said, “Pardon your servant, Lord. Please send someone else.”
Have a blessed day.
