Exodus 3:11 But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?”
At the beginning of this chapter, Moses was doing all the right things—he indulged his curiosity about the burning bush, when God called his name, he answered, “Here I am.” But now he seems to be faltering a bit—“But what about this? Or this? Or this?”
Exodus 3:12 And God said, “I will be with you. And this will be the sign to you that it is I who have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you will worship God on this mountain.”
Yet even these actions I understand. The need to understand and plan for potential scenarios is real. I do that, too. It makes me wonder how many times I have done this exact same thing with God, how many times has He called me that I’ve spent an inordinate amount of time planning for contingencies that God has already accounted for?
Exodus 3:13 Moses said to God, “Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ Then what shall I tell them?”
Lord, When I see Moses questioning You, I think, “What in the world is up with him?!?” But I know that I am guilty of the exact same behavior—hearing your call, but needing to talk through a thousand different scenarios because of my fear. Thank You for understanding my needs. Forgive me for my fear. Help me to answer Your call in a way that is pleasing to You. Amen.
Exodus 3:14 God said to Moses, “I am who I am. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I am has sent me to you.’ ”
Have a blessed day.
