Genesis 8:9 But the dove could find nowhere to perch because there was water over all the surface of the earth; so it returned to Noah in the ark. He reached out his hand and took the dove and brought it back to himself in the ark.
Today’s scripture contains more waiting, which has always been so hard for me, for most of us, I’m sure. Waiting for special occasions, waiting for holidays, waiting for something to happen, waiting to recover from something that happened, waiting for good things and for inevitable things.
Genesis 8:10 He waited seven more days and again sent out the dove from the ark.
I’d love to tell you that I am now a champion at waiting, to give you my handy ten-step guide to waiting well. Unfortunately, I cannot. But I have decided that life happens in the waiting, so no matter how excruciating (or boring or lonely or sad or agonizing or lovely) the waiting is, it is important that we wait well, that we wait in joyful hope, that we wait firmly rooted in our Savior’s love, grace, and mercy, that we share His light with others as we wait.
Genesis 8:11 When the dove returned to him in the evening, there in its beak was a freshly plucked olive leaf! Then Noah knew that the water had receded from the earth.
Precious Savior, All of us are waiting. Some are eagerly waiting. Some are anxiously waiting. Some are numbly waiting, and everything in between. Help us to remember that life happens in the waiting. Help us to wait well, rooted in You, shining Your light. Give us Your strength and help us to share it with others. Amen.
Genesis 8:12 He waited seven more days and sent the dove out again, but this time it did not return to him.
Have a blessed day.
