Genesis 20:15 And Abimelek said, “My land is before you; live wherever you like.”
As I reread yesterday’s scripture this morning, verse 13 jumped out at me: “And when God made me wander from my father’s household….” Commentary says of verse 13 that Abraham leaving his father’s home marked the beginning of his faith journey, yet here he is using it as part of his excuse for his lie.
Genesis 20:16 To Sarah he said, “I am giving your brother a thousand shekels of silver. This is to cover the offense against you before all who are with you; you are completely vindicated.”
Commentary also says that Abimelek is, in essence, heaping hot coals on Abraham’s head because Abimelek is clearly in the right and Abraham is clearly in the wrong. Only Abraham, who willingly accepts all that Abimelek offers, doesn’t seem to see the insult. Again I say, *this* is the shining example of righteousness?
Genesis 20:17 Then Abraham prayed to God, and God healed Abimelek, his wife and his female slaves so they could have children again,
Precious Savior, I’m not sure where I got the idea that those people that You use are perfect. I’ve read through Your Word before. I know that’s not true. Yet every time I read of how human and fallible and messy Your righteous are, I am surprised. Thank You for the reminder that we do not have to be perfect, that You can use us even though we are so messy and human. Help me to give myself and others grace upon grace as we go through this life. Amen.
Genesis 20:18 for the Lord had kept all the women in Abimelek’s household from conceiving because of Abraham’s wife Sarah.
Have a blessed day.
