Philippians 4:14 Yet it was good of you to share in my troubles.
For reasons I do not entirely understand, today’s verses put me in mind of a quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson: “Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day. You shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.”
Philippians 4:15 Moreover, as you Philippians know, in the early days of your acquaintance with the gospel, when I set out from Macedonia, not one church shared with me in the matter of giving and receiving, except you only;
I think it is the first verse about sharing in his troubles that puts me in mind of friends and grace. I am so willing to give my friends grace upon grace, but so quick to castigate myself if I have done something I shouldn’t (or not done something I should have).
Philippians 4:16 for even when I was in Thessalonica, you sent me aid more than once when I was in need.
Precious Savior, Thank You for friends and the ability to share in their troubles, to cover them with love and support and to pray them through life. Thank You for grace upon grace. Help us to be as loving and forgiving to ourselves when we misstep as we are to our friends in their troubles. Amen.
Philippians 4:17 Not that I desire your gifts; what I desire is that more be credited to your account.
Have a blessed day.
