Exodus 6:15 The sons of Simeon were Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jakin, Zohar and Shaul the son of a Canaanite woman. These were the clans of Simeon.
When it comes to long genealogical lists, I have teflon brain. It just doesn’t stick. Truly, I am tempted to just skip the entire list. Every. Single. Time. My sister, however, LOVES genealogical “stuff.” She can dig in and root around and find connections even though names often change spellings and people appear and disappear in census records.
Exodus 6:16 These were the names of the sons of Levi according to their records: Gershon, Kohath and Merari. Levi lived 137 years.
I wish I could say that I have learned from her eager diligence, but as I read today’s verses, my eyes unfocused a bit. But I know that each of these names represents a life, a family, a legacy, and I know that there is much to learn from those lives in all their imperfections. Lord, I’m trying. Help me.
Exodus 6:17-19 The sons of Gershon, by clans, were Libni and Shimei. The sons of Kohath were Amram, Izhar, Hebron and Uzziel. Kohath lived 133 years. The sons of Merari were Mahli and Mushi. These were the clans of Levi according to their records.
Precious Savior, Thank You that to You, we are so much more than just a name in a long genealogical list. Thank You that You know us intimately, You love us fiercely, You are with us mercifully. Help me to learn from these names, to draw closer to You. Amen.
Exodus 6:20 Amram married his father’s sister Jochebed, who bore him Aaron and Moses. Amram lived 137 years.
Have a blessed day.
