Genesis 8:5 The waters continued to recede until the tenth month, and on the first day of the tenth month the tops of the mountains became visible.
How much time must have passed on the ark at this point? How long have they been in the boat? Did they have any concept of how completely the landscape of their world had changed in that time? Were they anxious as they waited to see how the world had changed?
Genesis 8:6 After forty days Noah opened a window he had made in the ark
The need to wait and the need to accept–or at least be ok with–change are significant motifs in life. They aren’t fun, aren’t usually pleasant. The stench and the crowdedness of the ark seem pretty good analogies for how I feel about both waiting and change.
Genesis 8:7 and sent out a raven, and it kept flying back and forth until the water had dried up from the earth.
Precious Savior, As we prepare our hearts for the Advent Season, which is right around the corner, help us to be at peace with the idea of waiting and change. It can be scary and difficult, but as our Savior’s birth taught us, it can also be beautiful and soul-restoring. Help us to wait in joyful hope. Help us to draw closer to You in the waiting. Amen.
Genesis 8:8 Then he sent out a dove to see if the water had receded from the surface of the ground.
Have a blessed day.
