Genesis 3:4 “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman.
Again I have questions. The serpent was punished to crawl on its belly (v14) because of this incident. So how was it perambulating before then? Balancing on its tail? Were legs involved? Did it seem somehow authoritative in its movements that Eve thought listening to it was a good idea?
Genesis 3:5 “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
Why was Eve even talking to the serpent? Where was Adam? Were the other animals talking, too? What were they saying? Had Eve been staring at the tree, the fruit? Was she even interested, prompting the serpent’s response, or was the serpent just stirring up trouble, and if so, why? And did Adam even question the fruit Eve handed him? Did he just accept that he should eat it because Eve handed it to him? Did he think for himself? What was he doing during this entire conversation?
Genesis 3:6a When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it.
Precious Savior, Thank You that I can ask questions of Your word when I don’t understand, that I can seek answers, that I can try to make sense of things that don’t seem to make sense to me. Thank You that all my questioning, even when I don’t find answers, draws me closer to You than I was when I started. Help me always to strive to draw closer to You. Amen.
Genesis 3:6b She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.
Have a blessed day.
