Psalm 57:1a Have mercy on me, my God, have mercy on me,
I have seen church signs that read: When all else fails, pray. I always thought it odd that you would wait until all else had failed to try prayer. But I think that’s human nature. When times are good, prayer is not necessarily the first thing on our minds. But when everything feels like it’s falling apart, prayer is our default.
Psalm 57:1b …for in you I take refuge.
I’m just as bad, though I like to think that, sometimes, I’m a little better than I used to be. Maybe I’m fooling myself there. But, thankfully, our God doesn’t keep score. If he did, the scales would be so far out of balance that we’d never be able to right them. I am grateful that He’s always there. He loves us, and He wants a relationship with us–even with all our flaws.
Psalm 57:1c …I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings
Precious Savior, Forgive me when I treat You like You are just waiting for a word from me. Help me to make conversation with You a daily, hourly, moment-by-moment conversation, not simply a lifeline when I feel things are falling apart. Thank You for loving me deeply, fiercely, eternally. Help me draw closer to You. Always. Amen.
Psalm 57:1d …until the disaster has passed.
Have a blessed day.
