Luke 5:12 While Jesus was in one of the towns, a man came along who was covered with leprosy. When he saw Jesus, he fell with his face to the ground and begged Him, “Lord, if you are willing, You can make me clean.”
We were talking in Sunday School this weekend about the fact that when life is rocky—illness, bad news, etc—we realize very clearly how deeply we need our Savior. It’s easy to get complacent in the good times, but when life is off kilter, there is little chance I’ll forget Who I need in my life.
Luke 5:15 Yet the news about Him spread all the more, so that crowds came to hear Him and be healed of their sicknesses.
But I have lived long enough to know that sometimes, when we want healing, God sends perseverance instead. Sometimes, instead of fixing the issue, He makes His presence with me in the situation known instead. If the purpose of my faith, my relationship with my Savior, is to cash in a “Get out of Jail free” pass when hard times come my way, this could be problematic, but if the purpose of my faith is to draw closer to my Savior, to lean into Him, to trust Him, regardless of the issues I face, then even grace instead of physical healing will draw me nearer to Him.
Luke 5:15 But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.
Lord, Thank You for this day and for the reminder that You are not a magician with a healing wand. Your goal is not necessarily physical healing, it is spiritual wholeness in You. Lord, Thank You for all the times You do heal through physical means. But more than that, thank You for always drawing me closer, even when Your answer is no, for surrounding me with Your love, grace, and mercy, for healing and restoring my soul, even through my struggles. Help me cling to You always. Draw me closer. Amen.
2 Cor 12:9 But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is perfected in weakness.”….
Have a blessed day.
