A personal relationship…. (devo reflection)

Exodus 27:5 Put it under the ledge of the altar so that it is halfway up the altar.

The end of verse 8 says, “It is to be made just as you were shown on the mountain,” reminding us that this section in Exodus is based on the 40 days Moses spent on Mount Sinai during his first ascent and time with God and God’s directions to him during that time.

Exodus 27:6 Make poles of acacia wood for the altar and overlay them with bronze.

Maybe the delay, the distance (God to Moses, Moses to the people) is one of the reasons the Israelites have trouble with the waiting. They didn’t experience God. They experienced Moses’s experience of God. For the Israelites, it wasn’t personal. For Moses, it was, and because it was personal, it was infinitely more meaningful.

Exodus 27:7 The poles are to be inserted into the rings so they will be on two sides of the altar when it is carried.

Precious Savior, Thank You for Jesus, with whom we can have a personal relationship. Thank You that our individual relationship with Jesus allows You to become personally meaningful because we aren’t taking anyone’s word for Your goodness, we are able to experience it for ourselves. Help me never to take that relationship for granted. Amen.

Exodus 27:8 Make the altar hollow, out of boards. It is to be made just as you were shown on the mountain.

Have a blessed day.
