Luke 1:26 In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee,
I have told you before that I’m a “why” kind of gal. I want to know why things unfold the way that they do–not because I think something is wrong or needs to be justified but just because I’m curious. And today I’m curious about why Elizabeth was chosen to be the mother of John and Mary was chosen to be the mother of Jesus.
Luke 1:27 to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary.
Elizabeth wanted a child for years. She was married, settled. Her husband was in the priesthood. Both were faithful. Mary was a teenager. Her life was on the cusp of beginning. She wasn’t even married yet. What made these two the perfect choices, the perfect vessels for these holy births?
Luke 1:28 The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.”
Precious Savior, Thank You for understanding that I’m not questioning You. I’m trying to understand You better. Thank You for a curious mind that wonders about so many things. Even when I don’t have answers, thank You that I can see the questions. Amen.
Luke 1:29 Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be.
Have a blessed day.
